DESIRE

(Editor’s Letter from the current issue 011)

I think that is why this world has fascinated me for so many years. Not simply because of the movement between places, countries, or time zones, but because of perspective. Because distance changes the way we look at things. Cities grow smaller. Borders begin to lose their meaning. And sometimes it is only through distance that we begin to understand what we are really searching for.

This issue is titled Desire.

A word that is often misunderstood because it is so quickly mistaken for something superficial. Yet it often speaks to something completely different. A deep inner pull toward people, places, andthoughts that stir something within us. A longing for authenticity in a world that is becoming faster, more homogenized, andincreasingly interchangeable.

As Editor-in-Chief of AVIAIR, Sabine Kühlwetter Meiers shapes the magazine’s perspective, tone, and visual world.

Her perspective is rooted in design; her work is driven by curiosity. She is interested in people, their ideas, and what becomes visible behind the work when you look more closely. Many stories grow out of personal encounters, conversations, travels, and recommendations – and from a desire not to think about subjects within fixed categories.

For AVIAIR, she brings together art, culture, literature, fashion, travel, and fine dining in an editorial world where the section does not determine the story – the story itself does.

Her aim is to portray people in ways they are not seen everywhere else – personally, intimately, and with an eye for what makes them distinctive.
